Caifanes

Caifanes is a Mexican rock band formed in Mexico City in 1986 and one of the most important acts in rock en español. The group achieved major commercial success across the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Orígenes

Founded in Mexico City in 1986, the original lineup featured Saúl Hernández, Sabo Romo on bass, Alfonso André on drums and Diego Herrera, with Alejandro Marcovich later joining as lead guitarist. The band rose to prominence during the late 1980s.

El sonido

Caifanes' sound is a hybrid of British new wave, progressive rock and Latin percussion, anchored by deep, somber, Spanish-language lyrics and Saúl Hernández's distinctive vocals. Members have cited The Cure, The Beatles and King Crimson as major influences.

Legado

A cornerstone of Mexican rock, Caifanes earned both commercial success and lasting influence; Adrian Belew produced their third album, El Silencio, and guested on the track "Piedra," a mark of the band's reach.
