Camaron de la Isla was a Spanish flamenco singer regarded as one of the all-time greatest voices the art form has produced.
Born Jose Monje Cruz, he rose through the flamenco world from the late 1960s, becoming celebrated for his collaborations with guitarists Paco de Lucia and Tomatito.
His singing combined raw emotional power with daring artistry, helping push flamenco in new directions while honoring its deep tradition.
Together with Paco de Lucia and Tomatito, Camaron was of major importance to the revival of flamenco in the second half of the 20th century, and his influence on the genre is immense.
