Guaco is a long-running Venezuelan band that transformed gaita, the traditional music of Maracaibo, into a rich modern sound. They are one of Venezuela's most beloved musical institutions.
Founded in Maracaibo in 1968 by Mario Viloria, Alfonso “Pompo” Aguado, and Fernando Domínguez, the band took its name from a bird that flew over Viloria's house and began as a gaita zuliana group.
In the 1970s Guaco broke from traditional gaita by adding salsa elements, violins, and electric guitars; today their sound blends gaita with salsa, pop, jazz, funk, rock, and vallenato into a unique style.
Their constantly evolving “Guaco rhythm” became a hallmark of the tropical music genre and a point of pride in Venezuelan popular music.
Sobredosis de Amor
“Sobredosis de Amor” is one of the band's signature songs, representative of the lush, genre-blending sound that made them famous.
