Joan Sebastian was a Mexican singer and songwriter and the most awarded Mexican performer in Grammy history, celebrated as both a performer and a prolific composer.
Born in Juliantla, Guerrero, he began his career focused on soft rock and Latin pop before turning primarily to regional Mexican music, and composed more than 1,000 songs.
His later work centered on banda, mariachi and norteño, and he also recorded country songs in Spanish, reflecting a wide-ranging songwriting gift.
He wrote for artists including Bronco, Vicente Fernández, Lucero, Pepe Aguilar and Rocío Dúrcal, and won seven Latin Grammy Awards and five Grammy Awards — the most of any Mexican performer.
