Sumo was a hugely influential 1980s Argentine alternative rock band led by the Italian-born, Scottish-raised Luca Prodan. Though short-lived and underground, it reshaped Argentine rock.
Active in the 1980s and fronted by Luca Prodan, Sumo remained underground for most of its brief run while becoming a touchstone of the scene.
Their music is alternative rock heavily influenced by post-punk and reggae, often with English lyrics—a raw, visceral counterpoint to the era's dominant progressive and nueva canción styles.
Sumo is credited with introducing British post-punk to Argentina and is remembered as one of the most influential bands in shaping contemporary Argentine rock.
La Rubia Tarada
“La Rubia Tarada” is one of their signature songs, capturing the band's biting, irreverent attitude.
