merengue

Merengue is the music and dance of the Dominican Republic, developed in the mid-19th century and now beloved across Latin America; UNESCO inscribed it as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016. Its classic ensemble — accordion, güira and tambora — fuses the island's European, African and Indigenous roots.
