Nueva canción — "new song" — is both a musical genre and a left-wing social movement across Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, marked by folk-rooted styles and socially committed lyrics. It played a profound role in the pro-democracy upheavals of the 1970s and 1980s.

Surfacing almost simultaneously in the 1960s in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and beyond, it drew on a long tradition of songs of conflict.
