Marco Antonio Solís
balada romantica · Mexico
Juan Gabriel was Mexico's beloved "Divo de Juárez," one of the most prolific and popular songwriters in the history of Latin music, whose flamboyant style broke the industry's norms.
Born Alberto Aguilera Valadez in Paracuaro, Michoacán, and raised in hardship in Ciudad Juárez, he overcame an impoverished childhood to become a singer-songwriter of staggering output, writing for himself and countless other stars across decades.
His songbook spans ranchera, bolero, pop ballads, and mariachi, marked by soaring melodies and raw emotional directness. On stage his flamboyant, boundary-pushing persona was as celebrated as his voice.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most prolific Mexican composers and singers of all time, he is a genuine pop icon whose songs are standards across the Spanish-speaking world. His death in 2016 prompted national mourning in Mexico.
Querida
"Querida" (1984) is among his most beloved songs—a yearning ballad that became an anthem of devotion sung across generations.
