Manu Chao is a French-Spanish musician known for multilingual songs that fuse styles from across the world, singing in French, Spanish, English and many other languages.
He began busking in Paris and playing with groups like Hot Pants and Los Carayos, then co-founded Mano Negra with his brother Antoine in 1987. After the band's 1995 breakup he became a solo artist, touring with his live band Radio Bemba Sound System.
His music is genre- and language-crossing Latin alternative, mixing many musical styles and tongues into a distinctive global sound.
From Mano Negra's European success to his solo career, he became one of the most recognizable figures in international alternative music.
