La Sonora Santanera is a Mexican tropical-music orchestra with over seventy years of history. Founded in the 1950s, it became a beloved institution of Mexican dance music.
Modeled after Cuba's Sonora Matancera, the band was founded in 1955 by Carlos Colorado in Tabasco and found enormous success in the 1960s after breaking through in Mexico City.
Their music is tropical—cumbia and bolero-tinged dance music—built on lush brass, percussion, and romantic vocal harmonies.
Despite Colorado's death in 1986 and decades of lineup changes and name disputes, the orchestra endured as one of Mexico's classic tropical bands.
La Boa
“La Boa” is one of the band's signature numbers, a playful tropical favorite that became a dancefloor staple.
