Grupo Frontera
norteno · Mexico
Los Tucanes de Tijuana are a Mexican norteño band led by Mario Quintero Lara, credited with helping shape the signature norteño sound of Mexico's Pacific states.
Founded in Tijuana, Baja California in 1987, they — along with Los Tigres del Norte — pioneered a rougher style than traditional northeastern norteño, influencing many later artists.
Their music is norteño played in a tougher, edgier manner, a style that became the hallmark of the region and inspired a generation of bands.
They have won a 2012 Latin Grammy for 365 Días, five Grammy nominations, nine Lo Nuestro nominations and multiple BMI Awards, became the first norteño band to win an international film award, and received a star on the Las Vegas Walk of Fame in 2008.
La Chona
"La Chona" is among their signature songs, a high-energy norteño anthem closely identified with the band.
